50 Days of Green Tea: Will you accept the challenge?

Green Tea, Coffee CupIt was 8am the Monday after Thanksgiving and I was feeling a bit like the butterball turkey, the mash potatoes and gravy, and the mountain of stuffing that I had shoveled into my mouth all weekend. I needed a pick me up so I reached for my first high-fructose corn syrup filled Coca-Cola Classic of the day. It worked great and kept me running till lunch. With lunch I would had a soda as well. After lunch the food coma kicked in fast by 1pm I was really feeling it and I reached for my third high-fructose corn syrup filled soda of the day.

This has been my daily routine for the last four years or so, no I did not gain 100 pounds, but I did turn the can over and take a look at the nutritional facts. Seeing the amount of sugar and the calories that I was consuming three or more times a day for a couple hours of pick me up was disgusting. So I set out to find a new drink that would keep me up and not add the calories and sugar. First thought of course was diet soda, but you still have all the carbonation and whatever fake sweeteners they add. Then there’s coffee, but I’m not a coffee drinker never have liked the taste without a cup of sugar and a bunch of milk. That brought me to tea, I had always heard "It’s really good for you", so I decided to do some research. I found green tea to be the healthiest (with high levels of polyphenols and other antioxidants) and the one that I didn’t mind drinking without any sugar or milk.
